Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition, Elite Canada, to Be Held In Winnipeg

Meghan Groot

In March 2015, the best rhythmic gymnasts from all over Canada will be gathering in Winnipeg to compete in one of the biggest national competitions of the year. On March 12th through to the 15th, gymnasts such as Patricia Bezzoubenko, champion of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will be competing at the Max Bell Centre at the University of Manitoba for the Elite Canada competition.

During these three days, girls throughout individual levels, Junior and Senior and group levels Novice, Junior and Senior will be competing against each other to hopefully earn a top spot on the podium. The date was originally held for Elite Manitoba but due to conflicts with the venues, Elite Manitoba will no longer take place. This is because Elite Canada is what will determine the “ranking of the gymnasts, top 15 gymnasts for The Canadian Championships and to identify and assign participants for International Competitions” as stated in the Gymnastics Canada, Elite Canada 2015 Directive.

The girls will be arriving on March 12th, although some may choose to arrive on the 11th, and the competition will start on the 13th and go until the Saturday evening.  On the first day of competition, the Junior level will be competing Rope and Hoop and the Seniors will compete with Hoop and Ball. On day 2 of competition, Juniors will be performing with Ball and Clubs, than Seniors with Clubs and Ribbon. This competition is anticipated to be “one of the biggest events in the cities gymnastics history” says a representative of the event. “Events like this are usually held in the bigger cities with more convenient venues but it’s great that we finally get to host this event.” The event will also feature Novice, Junior and Senior groups.
